Our Philosophy

pollinating plums

We think William Shakespeare nailed it eloquently in Henry V:
“For so work the honey bees, creatures that by a rule in nature, teach the art of order to a peopled kingdom.”

Who Are Friends of Honeybees?
We are individuals and groups around the world that are starting to think ‘outside the box … from inside the hive’ to protect and preserve the well-being of honey bee populations, to ensure our local and global food security.

We are small-scale sustainable farmers and commercial growers.  Artists, authors and academics. Workers & retirees.  We’re chefs and restaurateurs, grocers and community gardeners, traditionalists and non-conformists, explorers, historians and poets, execs & laborers, musicians, actors, comedians, extreme sports pros, athletes … and their fans , critics, and applauding audiences.”

We include vegans & omnivores.  We’re fans of slow food and fast food.  Many of us are too young to vote – yet.  We’re multi-cultural atheists, Christians, Buddhists, Muslims, pagans, mystics & physicists. Leaders & followers, business owners, financiers, teachers & students, doctors and cabbies.  Beekeepers and researchers.

We Have One Thing in Common
You and I – all of us – need to work together as a human colony that thinks ‘outside the box…from inside the hive’.

We have a lot to learn from honeybees…and we don’t want to sit by silently and watch them continue vanishing from our neighborhoods across the planet . . . for as many reasons as there are honey bees themselves.   We cannot afford to ignore our ancient, dynamic, cross-species friendship with the bees.

In fact, we’ll be lost without them.
